Maarten van Trijp just inches away from victory
Today the team took on the UCI 1.2 PWZ Zuidenveldtour. Attacker Stef Krul(Metec-TKH) managed to stay clear of the chasing group, in wich Maarten van Trijp won the sprint convincingly. Maarten was just half a bike length away from his third victory this season.
The Zuidenveldtour proved to be a typical Dutch race with a very high pace and lots of attacks. At the beginning of the race a group of 18 riders, containing youngster Robin Blummel, got away. The peloton closed this gap after 90 kilometres of racing.
After three hours of racing a lead group got away from the peloton. Maarten van Trijp bridged across to this group wich also contained other favorites for the win. This lead group soon got an advantage of around 30 seconds, the gap stayed like this for the rest of the race. Tim Kerkhof bridged across to the lead group in the final. This shows Tim is in great shape the last weeks.
In the final Stef Krul wanted to prevent a sprint by attacking with two kilometres to go and he managed to do that. Maarten started his sprint early to catch up with Krul but he didn’t got passed his bottom bracket. Maarten once again proved he has fast legs and won the sprint by lenghts. He also proves he is more than just a sprinter by riding an attacking race.
