Maarten van Trijp sprints to second place in Ronde van Midden Nederland

The 191 kilometres race from Utrecht to Utrecht was won with a late attack at 4 kilometres to go. The Dane Casper Folsach(Colo Quick) escaped and managed to stay clear of the chasing group by 4 seconds. The sprint for second place was won by Maarten van Trijp who was our only rider in the first echelon.

The race started with a three man breakaway. Later the three leaders were joined by two companions. The peloton showed some cracks before the first climb of the Grebbeberg, but everything got back together. After 120 kilometres the wind blew from the side and everyone knew that echelons would be formed here. The potential threat of the wind lead to a nervous peloton.

Twan Brusselman made sure that Maarten van Trijp was at the front when the bunch cracked under the pressure of the wind. Maarten was part of the second echelon but managed to cross to the first one together with Ivar Slik (Monkey Town). Maarten who was our only rider in the first group rode very economic and only did his turns at the front when there was wind.

The peloton started to put pressure on the lead-group when the gap went down from 1:20 to 40 seconds. This lead to a hard and fast final with lots of attacks. Maarten gambled and put all his chips on his sprint but unfortunately there was still one rider in front.
