Ton Dolmans Trofee a very hard race

The third edition of the Ton Dolmans trofee took place under sunny weather conditions. 180 kilometres and many hills separated the riders from the finish. The many hills, twists and turns resulted in a nervous race. Unfortunately our riders played no significant role in the final.

The race started cruelly fast due to the pace of the Alecto team. This high pace made sure that the peloton thinned out a little. After a fast first lap with many attacks that didn’t stick a bigger group got away. There where 13 riders up the road without any of Vlasman Cyclingteam and DESTIL Parkhotel. Vlasman saw the danger and started pulling at the head of the peloton. In the meantime the gap grew to two minutes but the Vlasman team made sure that the peloton caught the leaders.

When the peloton caught the leaders there were still plenty of kilometres to go and plenty of opportunities to come. With 60 kilometres to go a group of eleven riders got away and almost every continental team managed to get a rider in the breakaway. Our guys tried but fell short and just couldn’t follow the high pace of the attack. Twan Brusselman later tried to bridge the gap with Piotr Havik(Beat) but the two couldn’t bridge the gap of 45 seconds and the peloton caught them again.

The last lap of 33 kilometres brought no changes to the race situation and the eleven leaders stayed clear of the chasing bunch. Kelvin van den Dool took the well deserved win for Vlasman with a late attack. Twan Brusselman was our top finisher, he passed the line in 12th place, snatching away third place in the peloton sprint. Altogether a hard day for our team as we never really got in the race. Now on to the next one!
